How I quit my social media addiction?

Social media is necessary evil . We all including child, youth even old people spend ample time on social media apps, if we don't use social media apps we start feeling insecure, unsafe and boring etc. 

I have been chronic addict of social media addiction. My screen time was 6 hours being a medical student. 

I were paying huge cost of it ,I lost my interest in studies my attention Shrank , I suffered from shortage of time to enjoy nature ،friends and more over it disturbed my reward system of brain .

Two months ago I started by social media detox. It proved blessing for me, it renormalized my brain and I have more time to enjoy nature and my focus skyrocketed after social media detox.

Out of sight out of mind 

Our mind creates trigger and makes us to do action .For example if you are on diet you open your refrigerator if that is full of sweets, fruits and vegetable automatically, your brain will crave to eat, now flip the side , you open refrigerator and that is empty and your brain naturally will not crave for eating.


The same is with mobile and social media apps if you keep phone with yourself 24 hours your mind will tempt you to use it . So find a balance and make yourself stay away from phone such as 


  1. If you are studying in your room put your phone in other room 
  2. Going outside for a gym are you doing other thing place your phone in your room 


This will decrease your temptation for mobile usage and you will have less urge for social media addiction. 

Make yourself account table 

We humans perform best when we think that people are looking at US and will judge our action ,we do that things carefully. 

If you want to quit social media addiction make yourself accountable. You can make yourself accountable by your friends partner ,roommate who will keep you remembering about decreasing time for social media. 

Another method is installing digital apps where you fix your time for social media when your time will exceed social media apps will close and stop working after that. 

But the password of that  digital app should be set by your parents or a sincere friends.

Add healthy routines in your life 

In atomic habit James clear give some tips to uninstall bad habits, one tip to get rid of negative habits is to to replace your bad habits with good one. 


You don't eliminate bad habits, you just replace them ( James clear).


If you want to quit social media addiction in corporate healthy habits in your daily routine such as 

  • Start reading books 
  • Make new physical friends 
  • Join gym are stop running in your local Park 

These all things will reward you positively to your body you will get satisfaction .


Conclusion 

That was all my strategies to cope my social media addiction thanks to God ,I am now fully cured from social media addiction. My screen time time  decreased from 6 hours to 2 hours and I am feeling much better after this. 

You can also use these strategies to cope with

 social media addiction also.
